Spaceballs: The Release Date! A sequel to Mel Brooks’ cult classic space opera spoof was announced last spring, and filming wrapped the following December. Now, we finally know when the movie is headed to theaters, but don’t start running at ludicrous speed to your local multiplex just yet.

According to reports, Spaceballs 2, which does not yet have an official title, will hit theaters on April 23, 2027. That puts it on the cusp of summer blockbuster season; it will contend with an as-yet unspecified Illumination animated film the week before its release, while it will share its release date with F.A.S.T., an action thriller penned by Taylor Sheridan. While the release slate will surely fill up as 2027 grows closer, at the moment it has a two-week cushion before it then has to contend with the second part of Mel Gibson’s The Resurrection of the Christ and Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda.

Fictional U.S. Presidents From Film — The Collider Movie Quiz! ](/movie-quiz-feb-26-2026-air-force-one-deep-impact/)

An assortment of movie Presidents so fictional, Bob Woodward wouldn’t stand a chance.

So far, we know that every living major cast member of the original film will be returning for the sequel, including Brooks (as both alien sage Yogurt and conniving President Skroob), Bill Pullman (as roguish hero Lone Starr), Daphne Zuniga (as the rebellious Princess Vespa), Rick Moranis (as arch villain Dark Helmet), and George Wyner (as villainous toady Colonel Sandurz). Pullman’s son, Lewis Pullman, will join the cast as the son of Lone Starr and Vespa; also starring in unspecified roles are Josh Gad (Frozen), Keke Palmer (Nope), and Anthony Carrigan (Barry). Brooks and Gad also co-wrote the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, the duo behind Detective Pikachu. The film was directed by comedy veteran Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar).

A Brooks-style spoof of Star Wars and other science fiction franchises, *Spaceballs *was released in the summer of 1987; a modest success on its release, it eventually became a cult classic on VHS. The plot of the film centered around a ragtag band of heroes opposing the tyrannical Spaceballs of the title, who steal oxygen from other planets. The original was an MGM release, and the sequel will be released by its successor, Amazon MGM Studios.

*Spaceballs 2 *will be released on April 23, 2027. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
