Apple TV might not have toppled Netflix as the world’s largest streamer yet, but it continues to make a compelling case through a focused, quality-first strategy. Since its launch, the platform has built a strong reputation for prestige sci-fi, consistently delivering ambitious, high-concept originals. One of its most successful titles, Silo, starring Rebecca Ferguson, recently set a return date for its highly anticipated third season. The series has maintained remarkable streaming success even between seasons, but another Apple TV sci-fi series, not frequently talked about, is quietly matching and perhaps exceeding that sustained success, despite a longer absence from screens.

That series is*** Foundation***, an ambitious adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s seminal 1950s stories. Long considered one of sci-fi’s most “unadaptable” works due to its scale and dense, idea-driven narrative, the material defeated multiple attempts over the years. Apple TV, however, rose to the challenge, translating Asimov’s intergalactic vision into a visually rich and narratively cohesive series that captures the scope of the source material. While the adaptation inevitably takes creative liberties, those changes largely enhance the storytelling, preserving the intellectual weight of the original while making it enjoyable without diluting its core ideas.

For the uninitiated, Foundation, which premiered in 2021 as one of Apple TV’s early sci-fi tentpoles, is set in a distant future where humanity spans multiple galaxies under the authoritarian rule of the Empire. At the heart of the story is a group of exiles who form the Foundation, a colony dedicated to rebuilding civilization in the face of impending collapse. While it generates fewer headlines than titles like Severance, the series has steadily cultivated a global following. Even after its Season 3 finale in September, it continues to rank among the platform’s most-watched shows across multiple countries, charting in about 10 countries as of this writing.

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Apple TV moved quickly to renew Foundation for a fourth season, announcing the pickup just a day after the Season 3 finale aired. Production was expected to begin in early 2026, though there has been little official confirmation on whether filming is currently underway. Casting and story details also remain under wraps, leaving the next chapter largely a mystery, especially after the seeming demise of Lee Pace’s Brother Day. However, it appears his character may not be gone for good, as revealed in his recent interview with Collider, where he also revealed he’ll take on a larger role behind the scenes for Season 4. Co-stars Jared Harris and Lou Llobell are expected to return, and if production is indeed underway, then an early 2027 premiere remains a strong possibility.

Stay tuned at Collider for more updates.
