Gaming in general can be an expensive hobby. Conquering Hernand, suplexing CM Punk and petting foxes in Yōtei can all add up, you know! However, every now and again a free game that’s worth your time pops up. Best of all, this is a free game you can play with your buddies. A new party game is coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam, and it doesn’t require any kind of subscription. Color me intrigued!

We now have a gameplay trailer for the upcoming free-to-play party game due for release in 2027. First impressions draw heavy comparisons with Fall Guys, but a second glance shows that there’s a lot more going on here. Not just a manic gameshow-style obstacle course game, but a base-building adventure with a lot more to offer. Let’s get into it!

Totopia is undeniably gorgeous. Even at a quick glance, this cutesy adventure is really flexing. Previously titled Project Atom and revealed at PAX East last year, this multiplayer party game has been stealing hearts and making a big impression on gamers. The game might even be larger than GTA 6’s map as it promises over 100 maps crammed with races, battles and challenges for you and your friends. You’ll also have the chance to bond with characters to pick up some special abilities that might give you the edge over your competition. The devs are dropping all this for free with no subscription needed.

Customization and self-expression are also a key focus of Totopia. Going further than silly hats and wavy arms, you can build your character from the ground up by customizing their hair, look, brand, clothing and more. You can even build up your home base area by adding furniture and large landscaping areas to your garden. Pulse Avenue will offer a place for players to enjoy some downtime and explore cozy social activities together like fishing, farming and more sim-like activities.

The new gameplay trailer for Totopia does a great job of showcasing the high energy, chaotic fun the game has to offer. The visuals and the activities are clearly aiming to appeal to a younger audience, but there seems to be fun here to be had for the whole family. It’s taken a few ideas from Fall Guys for sure but has expanded on what makes a good social experience and ran with it.

Totopia is set to launch some time in 2027, yet to be confirmed. It will be free to play on PlaySation 5 and also on Steam and Xbox. Totopia looks to go beyond the normal party obstacle course games we’ve seen recently and offers boss battles, platforming sections, secrets to discover and a lot more besides. Getting to visit cafés and complete social activities with friends on Pulse Avenue could be an entire game in itself.

Getting a free game on PlayStation is always a bonus, as long as it’s good. With so many free-to-play games either hiding pay-to-play mechanics or just falling short of the mark, Totopia is already leaving a lasting first impression. Let’s hope the finished game is as fun to play as it looks in the gameplay trailer.
