The Following Article Contains Spoilers For Jujutsu Kaisen’s Manga and Anime

Jujutsu Kaisen has done nothing but further cement itself as a meat grinder of a shonen anime with every passing season. Season 2’s Shibuya Incident seemed to set the stage for similar calamitous events to follow, and the Culling Game starting with season 3 abandoned all pretenses when it came to promising more slaughter on the way. But one such casualty felt particularly by the audience, aside from the devastating loss of Kento Nanami, was that of Nobara Kugisaki.

Nobara was pretty famously struck down by Mahito in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, and for those who only followed the anime, the utter ambiguity from a lack of a visual confirmed kill understandably gnawed at anime and manga audiences alike. This ambiguity was echoed in season 3 as well, with fans left wondering, is Nobara actually dead in *Jujutsu Kaisen? *

*Jujutsu Kaisen *season 2’s Shibuya Incident Arc was nothing short of brutal. Toward the end of that storyline, Nanami had just been killed by Mahito, leaving Yuji to take on the ultra-powerful Cursed Spirit. Mahito is one of *Jujutsu Kaisen’s *strongest characters, and while Yuji is powerful in his own right, he’s not nearly on the same level as his opponent. Despite the power difference, Yuji is able to put up a decent fight thanks to Nobara, who is battling a copy of Mahito. Unfortunately, though both fights are going well for the Jujutsu Sorcerers, Mahito pulls a dirty trick. He switches places with his clone, allowing him to use his Idle Transfiguration technique on Nobara’s face.

After a few flashbacks to her childhood, Nobara is able to tell Yuji that she had a good life. Then the left side of her face erupts in a splatter of blood. Despite Yuji’s emotional despondence, Arata Nitta arrives. Though he says Nobara isn’t dead, he also clarifies that her chances of survival are slim. In the second episode of *Jujutsu Kaisen *season 3, Yuji asks Megumi about Nobara’s fate. Though Megumi’s response isn’t clear, Yuji doesn’t seem to take the news well.

Fortunately, readers of the manga already know that Nobara is, in fact, alive. Though she’ll still be out of commission for the entirety of *Jujutsu Kaisen *season 3, she does make a fairly significant comeback. But unfortunately, as audiences are no doubt aware, the Culling Game isn’t over yet as season 4 initiates Part 2, so it’ll be a good while yet before Nobara graces the screen again. While this may be disappointing to hear, her return in Jujutsu Kaisen will be all the sweeter with the especially long absence.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel Isn’t Just Good, It Surpasses the Original Series ](/jjk-sequel-manga-better-than-the-original-series/)

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s newest flashback proves the series might just surpass the original series and here’s why.

Nobara also returns for Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, reassuring everyone that Nobara Kugisaki lives to a ripe old age well past the events of the original series. While it might be sad that Nobara will not appear in ***Jujutsu Kaisen ***season 3, it is reassuring that the fan-favorite heroine is still alive. Hopefully, she’ll be ready to make an appearance in the series’ fourth or fifth season.
