Nielsen Reveals What People Watched On Star Wars Day On Disney+
To celebrate Star Wars Day, Nielsen has revealed some interesting facts on the viewing habits of Star Wars fans on Disney+ in the past year.
May the Fourth has become a cultural event, as fans watch films and shows from the iconic franchise, which launched back in May 1977.
In 2025, U.S. viewers spent over 33 billion minutes watching Star Wars content across linear TV and streaming, with the streamed viewing accounting for the bulk of that total. Disney+ serves as a content hub for all things Star Wars, which includes exclusive series only available on the platform—one that gives fans access to their favourite titles at any time.
During 2025, the original film, “A New Hope”, was the most-watched film, followed by “The Phantom Menace” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. It’s thought that the release of the second season of “Andor” boosted interest in both “Rogue One” and the original film.
That show was also extremely popular, along with “Skeleton Crew” and “The Mandalorian”. No doubt there will also be more interest in rewatching the show ahead of the release of “Mandalorian & Grogu” in cinemas later this month.
Last year on May 4th, over 637 million minutes of Star Wars content were streamed, and that’s likely to be replicated again this year. According to Nielsen’s data, “Andor” was the most popular show watched, with the animated series, “Tales Of The Underworld” also being a popular addition to Disney+.
Nielsen has also released details on the top Star Wars titles by minutes streamed across generations, for the first quarter of 2026, highlighting that both Millennials and Gen X have been enjoying “Andor”, while both Gen Alpha and Baby Boomers have been loving “The Mandalorian”.
Roger’s Take: It doesn’t come as a huge surprise to see how popular the original films are on Star Wars Day, and I know I rewatched “A New Hope” again for possibly the hundredth time! It’s also interesting to see how Gen Z is still enjoying “The Clone Wars” animated series, while both young and older fans still love “The Mandalorian”, which is great to see.
As someone who sits on both the Gen X/Milennial line, I totally understand why there was so much interest in “Andor” last year, with the second season hitting the platform. Though it’s very worrying that none of the new sequel trilogy films made the list, highlighting that fans from previous generations just didn’t click with them in the same way.
