The last few years have seen some impressive additions to Jodie Comer’s ever-blossoming career. Many fans would argue that she’s best known for her role as Villanelle in the AMC original series, Killing Eve, which also co-stars long-time Grey’s Anatomy veteran Sandra Oh. Killing Eve went off the air in 2022, but just one year later, Comer teamed up with Tom Hardy and Austin Butler for the gritty Sons of Anarchy-esque thriller, The Bikeriders, which was written and directed by Jeff Nichols. While also known for her role in Ridley Scott’s polarizing 2021 historical epic, The Last Duel, Comer recently headlined the massive horror legacy sequel, 28 Years Later, along with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes. There hasn’t been a shortage of Jodie Comer-led projects for a while now, but that doesn’t mean she’s not still on the hunt for her next big hit.
This afternoon, HBO announced that Comer will lead a new limited series, The Chain, which is in active development by writer and producer Damon Lindelof. Lindelof has another big HBO project coming this summer in Lanterns, so his relationship with the company is only getting stronger. The Chain is based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Adrian McKinty, and Comer has been tapped to play Rachel, a character described as a “suburban mom who must consider the unthinkable when her daughter is kidnapped.” It’s unclear at this time when* The Chain* will be released or even when it will begin production, and any additional cast members have not yet been announced. In the book, Rachel must not only pay a ransom to get her daughter back, but also kidnap someone herself, forcing her into a conundrum of moral decisions while she nervously pushes towards her end goal of reuniting with her daughter.
Your instincts, your strengths, and your particular way of thinking under pressure point to one villain you actually have a fighting chance against. Everyone else — good luck.
Jason is relentless, but he is also predictable — and that is the gap you would exploit.
Michael watches before he moves. He is patient, methodical, and almost impossible to detect — until it’s too late for anyone who isn’t paying close enough attention.
Freddy wins by getting inside your head — using your own fears, your own memories, your own subconscious as weapons against you. That strategy requires a target who can be destabilised.
Pennywise is ancient, shapeshifting, and feeds on terror — but it has one critical vulnerability: it cannot function against someone who genuinely stops being afraid of it.
Chucky’s greatest advantage is that nobody takes him seriously until it’s already too late. He exploits the gap between how something looks and what it actually is.
The most popular show on HBO Max at the time of writing is Euphoria, the erotic thriller from creator Sam Levinson that stars Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and a host of other big-time performers. Rooster, the drama starring Steve Carell from creator Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking), is also sitting comfortably in the HBO Max top three right now. As for movies, Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights is taking over the world following its HBO Max debut. The Emerald Fennell-directed adaptation is fresh off a $241 million global box office run.
Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on The Chain and coverage of HBO’s future projects.
