It might not have a community as overwhelmingly vocal as Grand Theft Auto 6’s, but Hogwarts Legacy 2 is bound to become one of the most highly anticipated games of all time when it is officially announced and/or revealed. This is evident due to how Hogwarts Legacy sold over 40 million units as of last year, guaranteeing that it and Harry Potter’s iconic Wizarding World are still incredibly popular to this day.

With a sequel being seemingly inevitable, it is exciting to imagine what it could do to match and exceed the success of the first game. Hogwarts Legacy 2 adding Quidditch would be a lay-up in terms of appeasing fans’ desires, for example, but it may be equally important that the sequel does not add anything that would disfigure the gameplay experience of Hogwarts Legacy, and gamers are steeling themselves for that possibility.

On X, user PotterWorldwide has gauged fans’ interest in Hogwarts Legacy 2 and all the rumors enveloping it so far, such as the sequel potentially incorporating live-service elements or online/multiplayer functionality. When asking specifically about whether fans would like Hogwarts Legacy 2 to either be a single-player RPG like the first game or mutate into a massive live-service experience, the response has been resounding in favor of the former option.

For instance, user Shay Cormac wants to see nothing deviate from Hogwarts Legacy’s single-player RPG formula: “The first game was perfect. Literally just do more of that, and they will print money.” In an industry landscape where gamers have largely disavowed live-service games, and considering how successful Hogwarts Legacy was as a single-player game, this would surely be the logical and preferable route for Hogwarts Legacy 2, as well.

User Number Five would enjoy co-op functionality, however, suggesting that “they should make it co-op or some PvE elements with over world bosses or something.” Either way, the consensus is that fans do not wish for Hogwarts Legacy 2 to indulge in anything centered around live-service elements, out of fear of it losing its magic.

The fact that The Lord of the Rings’ MMO game was recently canceled is hopefully a sign that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will not be falling into a similar spike pit. All the same, it’s impossible to estimate precisely what kind of game Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be, or how much grace it will be given purely because of how successful Hogwarts Legacy is.

It also would not be alarming to hear that many Harry Potter games are in development, not just *Hogwarts Legacy 2. *With HBO Max’s ambitious Harry Potter TV series on the way, Warner Bros. Games may want to strike while the iron is white-hot.

If the rumors of a 2027 release are legitimate, or if it is capable of launching around the same time as HBO Max’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, it will probably not be long until actual information about Hogwarts Legacy 2 is shared. Meanwhile, this HBO Max show will be fun to look forward to.
