Power: Origins just got a major filming update!
The Starz prequel series is set to focus on the early lives of iconic characters James “Ghost” St. Patrick, played by Spence Moore II, and Tommy Egan, played by Charlie Mann. Set in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Power: Origins will explore their rise as young and ambitious drug entrepreneurs in New York City and detail their journey to becoming some of the highest-level drug distributors and wholesale suppliers the city’s ever seen.
ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns spoke to Power creator Courtney Kemp about the highly anticipated series, which kicked off production in New Jersey last year, and what fans can expect from the franchise’s two new leads.
Courtney Kemp: We’ve been shooting for a while now, and I’m really excited for everyone to see it. It’s unbelievable what these guys have done, because what a huge burden to have to play Ghost and Tommy, and they’re doing a great job.
Pegged for either late 2026 or early 2027, the show doesn’t have a premiere date set in stone just yet, but it’s already making history thanks to its supersized episode count. The spin-off series will have 18 episodes in season 1, a huge jump from Power seasons past, which typically saw 10 episodes per season.
In addition to Moore and Mann, who are taking on the roles made famous by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora, Power: Origins will also feature Power Book III: Raising Kanan star, Jason Dirden, as Traymond Stinson, Jennifer Ferrin as Tommy’s mother Kate Egan, Lizzy DeClement as nurse Jill Wexler, Lenny Platt as finance bro Lenny Seidel, Armani Gabriel as foot soldier J-Boogs, and Everett Osborne as professional football player Omay Moreau. Mekai Curtis will also be on the series, reprising his role as Kanan Stark.
According to the show’s official logline*, Power: Origins* will have a different tone from the original series and its spin-offs, with Starz describing the show as “a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the Power franchise” that will explore “the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”
Power: Origins is the fourth spin-off in the Power saga overall, following the recently concluded Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force, which ended with its third season earlier this year. Power Book III: Raising Kanan will too be coming to an end, with its fifth and final season set to premiere on Starz on June 12. Power: Origins is also not the only series in the Power universe that’s currently in the works. Gary Lennon and Kendra Chapman are busy cooking up the franchise’s next spin-off, Power: Legacy. The show is set to take place in Power’s present-day timeline after the events of Force, with Hardwick and Sikora back to reprise their roles of Ghost and Tommy.
