Three years after The Owl House aired its emotional finale, fans finally have their first real glimpse at the franchise’s official continuation. While many viewers hoped the beloved Disney series would eventually return with another animated season, creator Dana Terrace is instead expanding the story through a brand-new graphic novel centered on one of the show’s most beloved characters.

The upcoming book, The Owl House: The Long-Lived King, arrives on September 29 and serves as the franchise’s first official sequel since the television series ended in 2023, according to an Instagram post by Dana Terrace. To celebrate its release, Terrace shared several preview pages online, giving fans an early look at King’s next adventure while teasing a surprisingly emotional story that explores themes the animated series never fully addressed.

The newly released preview focuses on King rather than Luz or Eda, signaling a major shift in perspective for the sequel. Alongside the artwork, Terrace explained that one particular conversation had been something she had always wanted King to experience, crediting former The Owl House writer Mekenna Melvin and artist Din Du for bringing those pages to life.

Rather than relying solely on comedy, the preview hints at a more reflective side of King’s character. Terrace noted that she had long envisioned King discussing mortality, and the newly released pages suggest the graphic novel will finally explore that subject. The emotional tone stands in contrast to King’s usual role as comic relief throughout much of the television series.

Although King takes center stage, longtime fans should still expect familiar faces to appear. According to the official synopsis, the story begins after King accidentally erases Luz’s memories, forcing him to embark on a dangerous journey to restore them. That premise places King at the heart of the sequel while keeping Luz closely tied to the narrative.

Despite years of speculation about an animated continuation, The Long-Lived King currently stands as The Owl House’s official follow-up. No television sequel has been announced, making the graphic novel the first canonical return to the Boiling Isles since the Disney series concluded three years ago.
