Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things BoschMission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider’s news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan’s work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

When we think of fantasy sagas aimed at young adults, we tend to think of Hogwarts, and we tend to think of things like dragon riders, chosen ones feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders, alchemy going terribly wrong, you name it. But before all of that, there was another fantasy series that broke new ground.

Earthsea, Ursula K. Le Guin’s landmark fantasy series that helped shape generations of writers, is getting a major new edition this autumn. The Complete Earthsea will be released by Library of America on October 13, 2026. The new boxed set runs 1,344 pages and collects Le Guin’s beloved fantasy cycle in a two-volume hardcover edition edited by Brian Attebery. Included is the full story of Earthsea, that vast island world that was first introduced in A Wizard of Earthsea. The synopsis states:

It follows the story of Ged, a poor smith’s son, who discovers a magical talent and is sent away from home to a wizard school. During a duel with a fellow student, he summons a terrible shadow creature which he tries to banish, but it continues to haunt him long after he finishes his magical training. Finally he seeks advice from his old master Ogion, who tells him to confront the creature rather than flee it – that fears and shadows are to be faced, and that darkness is as much a part of us as the light.

The complete saga includes A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, Tehanu, Tales from Earthsea, The Other Wind, and additional stories from Le Guin’s world, and Penguin Random House’s retail listing separates the new Library of America release into two volumes, with Volume One collecting the earlier novels and stories, while Volume Two includes the later books and further Earthsea material.

Le Guin’s series has, for generations now, been considered one of the great pillars of modern fantasy storytelling and it helped define the idea of the “wizard goes to school” trope we’ve become so familiar with, along with the dragon lord fantasy tradition. However, Earthsea is considered a bit stranger and more thoughtful than many of the books it helped inspire. The magic is just as powerful as in the other stories, but it’s more dangerous and obviously, with great power comes great responsibility etc.

The Complete Earthsea arrives from Library of America on October 13, 2026.
