Since debuting with The Original Series in 1966, Star Trek has evolved from a cult science fiction show into one of the most influential multimedia franchises in entertainment history. Roddenberry’s vision of humanity’s future has evolved dramatically over decades of television, blockbuster films, novels, comics, and video games while introducing generations of fans to iconic characters like Captain Kirk, Spock, Jean-Luc Picard, Benjamin Sisko, Kathryn Janeway, and many more.

Although the franchise has gone through ups and downs over the years, we’ve arguably entered one of the most exciting eras with the recent wave of modern releases. Series such as Strange New Worlds have managed to recapture the spirit of classic Star Trek while also appealing to new audiences. Further, shows including Lower Decks, Prodigy, and *Picard *have proven the franchise’s staying power.

And with the upcoming release of *Star Trek: Space Hunt *in August, Trekkies will be treated to a brand-new experience with some of the franchise’s most iconic characters (via BGG).

If you’re looking for an exciting new Star Trek release in 2026, you can get your hands on the official new Space Hunt game, set to release later this year. It’s a new real-time hidden movement game that uses the Captain Sonar system, and will be available for purchase at this year’s Gen Con running from July 30 to August 2. Further, pre-orders open on Miniature Market on July 30, with expected shipments to roll out in August this year.

Space Hunt utilizes the Captain Sonar real-time team-based submarine warfare mechanics, which is often described as a tabletop adaptation of Hunt for Red October. Players split into crews aboard rival submarines, with each person taking on a unique role. Teams navigate hidden maps, manage limited systems, deploy torpedoes and special abilities, and attempt to locate and sink the opposing submarine before suffering too much damage. The game also includes a turn-based mode for a more strategic experience.

The Star Trek: Space Hunt version of the game is designed for 2–4 players and “demands intense coordination and sharp deduction,” dividing players into two opposing crews where you take control of iconic starships instead of submarines, where each vessel features *“unique builds for asymmetric gameplay.” *According to the official product listing, “the game covers several generations of the saga, allowing players to step into the roles of legendary duos such as Captain Kirk and Spock, Captain Picard and Data, or even the formidable Khan and Joachim.”

And if you’re planning to attend Gen Con later this month, you’ll have a chance to grab your copy of **Star Trek: Space Hunt **early. 800 copies will be available at the Surfin Meeple USA booth (2321), and Miniature Market will have 200 for sale on their website during GenCon for those who can’t attend, while the full retail release is expected later this year.
