In the last 15–20 years, Josh Gates has quietly become one of the most prominent producers/hosts in Hollywood. Gates got his start working as a story producer and co-executive producer on reality TV shows like Destination Truth and Stranded, the former of which can be streamed on platforms like Prime Video, Peacock, and even for free on the Roku Channel. Gates also briefly hosted his own talk show during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic, and while it’s no longer on the air, fans can check out older episodes on one of the biggest streaming services in the world, HBO Max. More recently, Gates has found himself hosting the Expedition Unknown reality TV series, which has since branched into other spin-offs like Expedition Files and Expedition X — Gates also hosts both offshoots.

Like any great producer worth his salt, Josh Gates is always looking for new ways to get his name out there, and fans of a certain TNT fantasy series may notice him in an episode this week. Gates will officially guest star as himself on this week’s episode of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, “And What Dreams May Come,” which airs on TNT this Sunday night. Dominic Monaghan, best known for his role as Merry in the original* Lord of the Rings* trilogy, will also guest star as Merlin in this week’s episode. Collider is thrilled to partner with TNT before this week’s episode arrives to exclusively preview a new look at the episode, which can be found below. TNT has also released an official description of the episode, which reads as follows:

“A distress call from Merlin (Dominic Monaghan) leads the Librarians to a town where the entire population has mysteriously fallen asleep. As they search for the magical artifact behind the enchantment, the team is forced to confront their darkest nightmares brought vividly to life.”

Your answers point to the iconic universe your values, your instincts, and your particular way of seeing the world were built for. This is where you would find your people — and your purpose.

You believe in the cause — in the idea that freedom is worth fighting for even when the odds are impossible and the empire is vast.

You understand, in the deepest part of yourself, that the journey matters as much as the destination — and that the world’s beauty is worth protecting even at great cost.

You believe that love, loyalty, and doing what’s right are not naive sentiments — they are the most powerful forces in any world, magical or otherwise.

You see the world clearly — its power structures, its hypocrisies, its brutal arithmetic — and you are not paralysed by that clarity. You use it.

You believe the future is worth building — that curiosity, cooperation, and the expansion of understanding are not just ideals but the most practical path forward for any civilisation.

Noah Wyle was involved as a producer in the first season of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, but he does not star in the show. Wyle previously played Flynn Carsen in earlier installments of The Librarians franchise. Wyle has shifted his focus to starring in the hit HBO Max medical drama, The Pitt, which is in the middle of shooting Season 3. Wyle previously starred in ER for over 10 years, which is partially why so many people have tuned into* The Pitt *all these years later.

Check out new episodes of *The Librarians: The Next Chapter *on TNT and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the fantasy series.
