The release date for Nobody Wants This season 3 is officially set.
Netflix’s hit romantic comedy series follows the love story between the agnostic Joanne Williams (Kristen Bell) and Rabbi Noah Roklov (Adam Brody). By the end of Nobody Wants This season 2, Joanne realizes that she has come to genuinely feel connected to Judaism and wants to begin the conversion process. Another major development in the finale is that Noah’s brother, Sasha Roklov (Timothy Simons) and his wife, Esther Roklov (Jackie Tohn), decide to break up.
Now, Netflix has announced Nobody Wants This season 3 will premiere on October 22. First-look images and teaser art, an official synopsis, and quotes from the show’s creative team were also revealed. The images show Joanne and Noah kissing as they move in together, Sarah Silverman teaching a Judaism conversion class, Sasha (who now has bleached hair) taking a picture with Morgan Williams (Justine Lupe), Sasha and Esther talking with Bina Roklov (Tovah Feldshuh), who is on their bed, and Andrew Rannells sitting by a pool. Co-showrunner and executive producer Bruce Eric Kaplan explains that *“After the ups and downs of Noah and Joanne in Season 2, it was really important to us to be like, ‘Let’s let them have their moment now of settling in and having fun.’” *This is further teased in the official synopsis, which confirms that Joanne and Noah are moving into a new home together as they build on the strong foundation of their relationship and relish having new experiences together.
That “first time” feeling, all over again. After recommitting to each other at the end of last season, Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) are moving into a home — and a relationship — that finally feels solid, embracing every exciting “first” that comes with building their life together. Sasha (Timothy Simons) and Esther (Jackie Tohn) are thrust back into the dating world, whether they like it or not, stumbling through all the awkwardness (and unexpected thrill) of getting to know someone new, right as Morgan (Justine Lupe) takes her career to the next level, on her way to becoming an (almost) media sensation. Meanwhile, Sasha and Morgan have been circling something neither of them has been able to admit to.
Creator and executive producer Erin Foster added, “We wanted to make sure that this couple is still fun and flirty with each other. That’s the thing that makes them special and why they like each other so much…No matter how long you’ve been together. That’s the dynamic we’re looking to emulate in the show — that once you get settled in, it doesn’t have to stop being fun.”
Between the image of them taking a picture together and what is mentioned in the synopsis, Kaplan addresses the current status of Sasha and Morgan’s relationship: “What’s interesting about the two of them is that they’re always navigating how they should be with each other…But then the curveball of Sasha now being single propels us into ‘OK, we are just friends, but now there’s this unspoken thing that exists.’”
As for Morgan’s professional life, Kaplan says, “It feels real that, at this juncture in Morgan’s life, she would be like, ‘Okay, how can I become something bigger than I am?” Co-showrunner and executive producer Jenni Konner expands on this further, sharing that “Morgan’s passion is lapping Joanne.” The two sisters have done their sex and dating podcast together, but these comments indicate that their careers are about to go in different directions.
The confirmed release date for Nobody Wants This season 3 means that the show is releasing a new season in the fall for the third consecutive year. A consistent release schedule is a win for the series and for Netflix, especially given the long hiatuses that occur between seasons of many hit streaming shows.
Along with Bell, Brody, Lupe, Simons, Tohn, and Feldshuh, other returning Nobody Wants This cast members include Paul Ben-Victor as Noah and Sasha’s father, Ilan Roklov, Shilo Bearman as Sasha and Esther’s daughter, Miriam Roklov, Sherry Cola as Joanne and Morgan’s podcast producer and friend, Ashley, Stephanie Faracy as Joanne and Morgan’s mother, Lynn Williams, and Michael Hitchcock as Joanne and Morgan’s father, Henry Williams. Silverman and Rannells are new additions to the cast.
While Bina seemingly tries to get Sasha and Esther back together, the teenage Miriam will be grappling with her parents’ separation. Ashley is poised to play a key role in the next steps Morgan takes in her career, while Silverman’s character plays an integral part in Joanne’s journey of converting to Judaism. And if Morgan and Sasha become romantically involved, things will become more complicated for all the Nobody Wants This characters.
Nobody Wants This season 3 premieres October 22 on Netflix.
