The hunt to certify the next *James Bond ***has caught the attention of veteran actor Pierce Brosnan.
After a five-year hiatus since Daniel Craig retired from the role, the casting selection for his successor is finally underway and has reached a turning point in recent weeks. A report from Page Six revealed a James Bond shortlist of six major contenders, with Jack Barton seemingly being the unexpected favorite. Other major names include Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson. Following a few conflicting updates, the next James Bond has yet to be confirmed, but the wait may not be much longer.

In an interview with* The Times*, Brosnan stated he no longer revisits his era and is “just a member of the audience now awaiting the next Bond and wishing him well.” Regarding the rumored names, “There are lots of good hats in the ring. Lots of great actors. I see it. I follow it,” and the creative team “could probably just go left-field and pick someone that none of us know about.”
However, he is tight-lipped about his choice for the next James Bond amid caution from his wife, saying: “I wouldn’t pick anyone. My wife told me not to say anything and I’ve said too much. Because once I say something it goes [everywhere] and I get hanged.”
Brosnan has been one of the most responsive past Bond actors since the search started half a decade ago. When rumors circulated that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was in the running, the 007 actor endorsed the pick if the reports were true. At one point, he joked that he wanted to play a senior James Bond, but acknowledged that the role is “another man’s job.”
Meanwhile, the next James Bond has been a hot topic. Recently, Gary Oldman endorsed his Slow Horses co-star, Lowden, after he stated that “became they have picked him. They made their choice, but they have not announced it yet.” After his comments stirred headlines, he clarified that his response was misinterpreted and had no real insight into the casting: “So they took it to the very edge of misquoting me, moved things around like they do and it became a headline.”
Nevertheless, Deadline reported this past June that auditions were underway for talent who made it to the next round. Those involved in the process include casting director Nina Gold and director Denis Villeneuve. Gold previously mentioned that the next James Bond must “ooze sex appeal” and must be able to act. Names like Turner, Lowden, and Elordi have been in the running for some time, while Barton was the newest addition to the shortlist.
Nevertheless, one of the producers, Amy Pascal, insinuated that “the end of the year is a good bet” for when Amazon announces Craig’s successor. Additionally, writer Steven Knight recently confirmed that the first draft was completed. As of writing, Amazon has yet to announce the filming window or release date for the next ***James Bond ***movie.
